Family number plates
Discussion
I'm sure you have all seen households where they've got 2-3 cars all with similar number plates.
Now i've known some families where they do it with some valuable plates which have been handed down through the family for a couple of generations.
But what about where they are much cheaper plates, eg a 2 number prefix plate, does it look good to have cheap plates that match on your cars, or does it just make people look like the poor pretending to be posh?

Admittedly it's not a family, but one of the local taxi firms has all have similar plates and looks quite smart. There's are the prefix (think it's T8) then the letters.
There is also a family near by with a few cars with plates on "UN xxxx". Think they have about 6 or 7 cars on Jag's, Land Rovers, and a new CR-V.
Usually not one for private plates but I think those ones look quite smart.

I have been always been of the opinion that private plates were crass. When DVLA started selling them commercially my family worked out that we could have at least two plates that spelled our surname by converting a number into a letter and having a meaningful suffix at the end either a "y" or an "s". We have a short surname obviously. Probably would have cost about £1500 each. For a while I listened and then parked the idea along with the request for dog and a caravan. Of the three ideas I felt the plates were the best but am glad I didn't proceed. It may have worked at the time with a people carrier full of kids but not now they have all left home.
My dad has one for his 50th birthday present mg51 del can guess what car it was on and his name lol. It now belongs on a mini. For me though I swap cars so often the pain in swapping the plates back over to different cars and rather spend the money on other things.
A guy in work has similar plates in his family so its certainly not un common but to get worked up over it get a life.

My parents and I have family number plates. I inherited mine from my grandmother. (N.B., this does not mean these are priceless heirlooms - my parents bought a set of 3 registrations, 15 years ago.) Most people that notice my car has an unusual numberplate seem to assume it's just really old. But of those that I've told it's part of a set, reactions have generally been reasonably positive - on average. Interestingly, women generally seem to like the idea, while men's reactions are much more mixed.
If you've got £500 burning a hole in your pocket, and nothing else that it needs to be spent on, why not?

These plates say one thing, and one thing only. "I have money to waste".
Now if you've got some cheap, modern £250 plate it is just saying "I've got £250 to waste", whereas the pricey ones say "I've got lots of money to waste".
In fact, if I see a really classy car with a standard plate, I'm always pleased to see that the owner has the good taste not to waste money on such things.
