Another what have I seen.

Flying over Narborough in an easterly direction a high wing twin piston engined fixed u/c, single fin. Then about 20 min. Later flew back on a reciprocal course. I thought at first it was a twin otter, but never seen one around here before. Anybody else see it or have any ideas.

The Twin Otter is a possible candidate but it is turboprop powered, not piston.

Apart from the Islander as mentioned above, I can't think of a twin, piston powered aircraft with the attributes you described.

Rockwell Aerocommanders (piston & turbine) used to be popular for survey work so often seen heading in one direction & then returning as they cover an area.
