Ah well it's sold now
Think both parties came out okay but nevertheless would have been nice to get an extra couple of hundred pounds

Ever get that feeling?

Guy says on phone what's the lowest and I went straight to my bottom line, moment of madness having had the car up for a month with not much real interest , then again not many people are looking for a 4.2 v8 lol

That's the telephone equivalent of a buyer making a low-ball offer in person and sticking out his hand... hoping that you'll shake it!

Still, better it's sold than hanging about. smile

For future note, the only response to that question is "what's your best offer?"

Never mind, though. Whilst you may have missed out on a couple of hundred, you didn't go below your lowest position so everyone's a winner

I am crap at negotiating. So buying/ selling cars I always feel like I should have tried harder. I always manage to get some money off when buying - but I must remember to keep my mouth shut at some points in the negotiation.

Overall I probably don't do too badly, but I always have a sour taste. Maybe reading PH does not help with everyone negotiating and getting zero depreciation on their cars by buying low and selling high ... makes me sick..... smilesmilewinkwink

This. Rule number 1 in negotiation training is to use silence to your benefit smile

I sold my Beemer for 500 less than my absolute bottom limit a few months ago. But only because I wanted to free up money and do it whilst I was on the sick (legit by the way before you ask :-))
I was disappointed selling her for that but it did what I wanted and I got a cheaper run around.
Never Win with cars..

i wasn't expecting the call and caught me off guard

noted for next time "whats your best offer"

as above, at least it's sold with an ok price, just would have been nice on cash flow for banking an extra couple of hundred of pounds, but then again i'm hoping to get about £100 back on road tax

Had this recently, sold a car at what I thought was a fair and reasonable price, possibly a bit cheaper but I wanted it shift it. Decent buyer and a smooth sale. 3 months later it was up for sale for £500 more than what I'd sold it at with little work done, which is a fair whack on a £2k car. Car sold quickly at this price too, I was slightly peeved as I didn't think it would sell at such a price. Irritating as looking back I should have tried for more.

yeah that's the feeling, as a few hundred would help right now elsewhere on cashflow too
