280i gas springs

Hi all,

I need some replacement gas springs for the hatch on my '85 280i coupe. The originals are Elektro-Lift electrically conductive springs. I don't need the conductivity as I can just run a wire to the hatch defroster. any advice on replacements?

If you search here, there are some detailed threads on this. But the bottom line is: figure out the rating (150 NM?)/length and you can get them at any auto box stores in the US for under #20 each (but w/o the electrical "telekron" (SP?) effect). Then move the clips for the electrical from the old ones be to the new ones. I'm not sure it makes a difference other than you may have a live circuit (strut) to your trunk lid but your 3rd light will work. Grady
