What car did I see? 70's 2 seater

I saw a strange one today, only from behind...

It was a LHD 2 seater Coupe with a flat wide body (orange), straight bumpers, 2 rear lights each side, a chrome surround to the rear window and a black vinyl roof.

When I got close it appeared to have 944, then what looked like a VW symbol, then Porsche. It definitely was not a 944 Porsche...

The plate was TAP 123X (I've changed the numbers to protect the innocent / paranoid), or at least I thought it was. The plate I tried in MID wasn't recognised.

Realise this is hard with just a description. Will try to knock up ms paint...

Bloody hell, 1 post and 1 minute! That was it, Porsche 914. Guess I missed the 1 as a 4.

And I spent ages painting it in MS Paint, what do you think of my effort?

Of all the pictures posted so far and your assertion that it was a 914, where did the lights come from
