Trying to connect my ipod nano (7th Gen) to my 997.2 GTS and having no joy...

Nano has a 'lightning' connection as opposed to the good old Apple 30 pin and there lies the problem.

My car has the Porsche Y-wire in the centre cupboard which works fine with my I-phone 4S but I prefer the phone to be connected via Bluetooth as opposed to being plugged in. In my BMW 1M the nano worked fine just connected via the USB port but the Porsche doesn't like this and won't function.

I have seen that apple make an adaptor from 30 pin to lightning but have read lots of reports that they don't actually work on lots of applications so not too keen to spend £30 unless its definitely going to be the solution...

Anyone know the solution?
Tried the apple adaptor?
Other ideas?
Or do I get an earlier ipod to live in the car?

All help appreciated,

Chris

As long as you get the proper Apple adapter it should work fine (does on mine).

The cheaper adapters just convert the power charge only and doesn't send audio. The reason the apple one is pricey, is the lightning connector only has digital audio out and most 30pin connectors are analogue audio - so the apple adapter has a built in DAC.

Thank you!

Do I need just the small adaptor (port on each side) or the adaptor with the short wire?

Short wire is much more convenient if you want to fit a full iphone5 in the box. Adapter should be fine for something the size of a nano. You might want to get the wire just in case...

I have to say, I'd buy a 64gb USB stick and drop the music on that rather than faffing with a nano and adapter, but I guess its your call ;P

For lightning connector you need one of with of these - I'd recommend the cable - this is what I used in my 997 GTS:

The other thing I used in my 997 GTS with my iPhone was this bluetooth adapter - it appears on your iPhone as an AirPlay device - Tune2Air.

Just select it and you can do full control of the iPod application just as if it was plugged in.
Good for when you don't want to put the phone in the armrest but still want your music.

Really interested in the exhaust mod for my GTS also but i hear everything from it sounds as good as a GT3 on steroids to it sounds marginally better than the standard GTS sports exhaust. Is it really that good?

We fitted the Sharkwerks exhaust on Monday afternoon (PIG of a job!) and all I can say is WOW! With the exhaust on standard quiet setting it isn’t a great deal louder – maybe 10% better than the original system but once you open the system valves it sounds glorious. Almost dare I say like a 997 GT3 which is definitely no bad thing. Drove the car last night with the valves open and had a permanent smile on my face as it now sounds like I wanted & envisaged my first 911 to sound. So very impressed with quite possibly my only modification that I will be doing! There is no resonance or unpleasant sounds and the advantage of the switchable system is a real plus point now as previously I didn’t feel it offered enough difference.

In summary I fully recommend it and if you are ever in the Nantwich / Cheshire area you are more than welcome to have a listen.

We do import a lot of products from the States and we may consider putting an order together for these which will bring the price down... PM me if interested...

The OPC I spoke to (Chester) said that changing the mid-silencer would only effect the warranty on the associated exhaust components and not the rest of the car.

Next the alignment…. We are just so busy its fitting it into the workshop to get done!

Hi Chris,

Just realised from your post that you are at ABP - I live on Wychwood!

I had a GTS, which I sold to Tom @ 911V, looking at your photo - that is where you got yours from too?

Would love to listen to your exhaust, I am in a 997T now - and an exhaust is on the list for a future upgrade smile

LOL - Its a small World!

Was your GTS a Red one with manual gearbox? Remember one for sale and the pictures looked like Wychwood...

I remember seeing the add! At the time I still had the BMW 1M and preferably wanted a PDK but it looked good. It would be up for sale at £58,000 + now...

Rather than start a new thread I thought I's ask here:

Just picked up my 997.2 GTS with updated PCM3.

With an ipod mini connected through the Y-wire ipod connector (standard old 30-pin connection) in the centre glovebox, the volume of music from the ipod is significantly quieter than it is from the tuner/radio. When switching between the two there is a massive jump or fall in volume.

Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Jack
