Peugeot 207 1.4 petrol
Discussion
Hi all
Mrs OB wants to swap her 107 for a used 207 (I know, I know but she likes Peugeots)
Critera is 5 door & bit more space, but still good economy. 2 engines a std 1.4 (guessing this is the unit from the 206 which we owned and always seemed okay) or the 95bhp VTI (BMW/PSA unit)
Should we stick the tried and tested or go for the newer engine? Performance is not too important, economy quite important, longevity more important. She's not likely to much more than 5000 mile per annum with the occasional long (270 mile) trip thrown in.

We have a 207 which we have owned from new. It's the 95 version, 2008, with the engine shared with the Mini One, 2007, which we also own. In the Peugeot this is just about adequate. Obviously I depends on what you are used to but I can imagine a lowered power engine would make the car feel really sluggish. I doubt whether there will be any economy benefit either. Ours averages between 39 and 45 MPG. The latter with mixed driving including some motorway. Interestingly the Mini gets about 10% more though it does have the benefit of a six speed box and is lighter. Over 36000 miles there have been no major issues with the Peugeot.

I had one. Lovely suspension, great brakes.. Boring engine. Very boring. Immediately regretted buying it levels of tedium. Looked ok though.
You didn't spank it hard enough (or the kilos shed in the 208 have livened it up)...
It's a little bit lazy, yes, but at least it's not asthmatic like the lower displaced engines. I have the 1.4 VTi in the 208 and deliberately went for it instead of the 1.2, chief reason being that it was the tried-and-tested engine carried over. I like it, alright, it's not going to shove you back into your seat but find it has plenty enough for my needs in a daily pootling up and down the motorway whilst also being able to cane it down the minor roads.
The car is lighter but if memory serves my 208 is getting 48mpg.
