Austin Mini Van Value

Guys,

Today I extracted my late Dad's old Mini Van from it's storage place. I have a buyer who is interested (this is not an advert!). It has done just over 7,000 from new, before being written off in an accident in about 1972. My Dad then bought it and had the body repaired, and between us we eventually got it roadworthy back in about '87/'88. However we never got an MOT, so since then it's been in storage, mostly in a dry garage. I can't find any documentation for it as yet.

We never agreed a price, but I thought "about £1000" semed reasonable. Having now had chance to have a good poke around it in daylight, I'm not so sure. I reckon a good couple of weeks work by a competent mechanic could see it roadworthy. Obviously not a £7k example, but it has potential.

Basically...what is it worth?

I would say it is worth more than £1000. Look on eBay a lot of really rough Mini Vans seem to go for good money, far worse looking vans on there now for more than a grand and people are still bidding.

I have a Mini pickup and they are going the same way, values of classic a Minis are on the up. I may be interested myself as I always wanted a van to go with my pickup!

Bit of a coincidence, I was thinking of asking the same question from a buying point of view. How much for a van in reasonable condition with no rust?

Valuing cars like this is anything but an exact science, and ultimately it's worth what someone will pay. There are plenty of clues to the answer to that question here, though:

Of the two, I'd leap at the eBay one, any day of the week.

Why? It's original and straight. It's been used until fairly recently. It's respectably shabby. It probably doesn't need much more than a good service and it could be sign-written and work for a living as a nice little retro delivery van/advert.

The OP's hasn't even had an MOT once since being written off and rebuilt. How well? No idea. Open a door, and it looks like a cheap Xmas decoration. Sure, it's low mileage , but it's not been used in the thick end of half a century, so bargain for a complete mechanical rebuild on top of the cosmetics.

Sorry, OP... You asked... If you want to sell it as a project, a grand seems fair. If you want to sell it for decent money, then what does it need for an MOT?
