Fuel tank on 1997 Defender 110
Discussion
I have just replaced the tank on my Defender however I had a real job getting the tank to line up properly with the mounting points, so much so that the tank top edge was pressing on a piece of the forward mounting bracket. To alleviate this I inserted some old rubber bushes onto the bolts but sadly the tank has clearly ended up pressing on the corner of the bracket and split my new tank. This forward bracket looks like it has been modified over the years and has had a piece welded on which has caused this issue. Q. Does the forward mounting bracket on your 1997 ish 110 consist of what looks like a square mounted bracket with a further welded piece on it ??
The truck had a new cross member last year, fitted at Frogs island 4x4 and the old tank was put back in and promptly split on the seam (wish i had listened to Foleys)
Thanks Paintman but I think I have found that the bracket that has caused the problem is part of original chassis but it still does not help me work out how in the hell I get the tank back in without it doing the same thing again !!! Sometimes you just want to murder the plonkers who design these things !!
