RichB has found a sleeper car.

Either term is useless because there is no need to define or describe the intended meaning.

ETA: in terms of cars.

Think they're two terms to describe pretty much the same thing.

Performance from somewhere that's unexpected, and doesn't draw attention to itself.

Fancied an M3 once but didn't want the hassle of oiks trying to rob it so bought a fully loaded class C written off E328 Touring. Then put an M3 engine(evo), gearbox, suspension and brakes into it. So an E36 M3 touring, something BMW should have done in the first place. Now that was a proper sleeper..

Agreed.

A debadged Saab 9000 or 9-5 Aero was/is a nice sleeper as well. Dull estate with a midrange to surprise.

Thing is though now you ca get a debadged 335d F30 which does 0-62 in 4.8 seconds and onlto the 100 in just shy of 11 seconds. It looks no different to a 318d m sport apart from the twin exhaust (but that is identical to the 330d). Total Q cars and 52mpg combined to boot!

A sleeper is a car that is largely ignored today but will be worth lots of money in the future. Puma for example. If only it was easy to identify sleepers.

A Q-Car is something that looks very plain and ordinary but goes like a bat out of hell.

Stealth? Don't know what this means in regards to cars.

I have never seen a stealth car.

My Merc is a good sleeper car, spent many an hour having 40 winks.

I think he means, BMW should have built as a general model, not one times for VIPs...

My current 9-5 Aero estate is the perfect sleeper.

It was a really easy conversion, everything just drops in. Only issue we had was the TC, M3 doesn't have it so the warning light kept flashing. In the end we just had to leave the motor attached to the wiring loom cable tied up in a corner of the engine bay.

I had a battered mark 1 mx5 a few years back that I strapped a turbo and intercooler in to.
Took it from 90 to 220 hp. Not massive power but it gave a nasty surprise to a lot of quick machines!

Low weight is definitely your friend...

I think both terms are totally undefinable without a big argument breaking out but I think of 'stealth' as being a standard car with a decent engine but no ostentatious bodykit, alloys, etc. like a Volvo V70 T5 and a 'sleeper' being something modified with a decent bit of extra power without changes to the external appearance like an Astravan with a 2.0 turbo
