Thinking of getting a cheap, completely non-practical, fun 2nd car. It will be for weekend hoonage only and practicality is not a factor.

What are people's thoughts on best options?

MX5/MR2?
350z??

I really enjoyed my £3k mk3 MR2 - cheap to run and brilliant on trackdays.

Got to be a Caterfield style car surely?

Tigers come in on budget and seem pretty well made.

A cheap tatty hatchback, turn it into a track car with the rest of your budget?

If you can push the budget, how about a cheap VX220? Like this one:

I'd spend £1.5k on a non-rusting MX5
A further £1.5k on suspension / brake / engine mods.
Keep £2k in the bank as a 'when and if' fund.

Do it right and you'll end up with a capable and fun road / track car.

I'd probably try and find a mk3 MR2 with a 2ZZ engine swap.

Most fun I've had personally in cars is joint between an Mx5 in the snow and my Clio 197 on any A/B road
That said I went to a drifting experience over the weekend and am itching for something Rwd again!

Nothing makes you smile like a nicely controlled bit of oppo' !

been scratching my head over this as well.

i currently have a mr2 rev3 turbo tuned to 300bhp as a weekend toy. only cost a few grand to get a good one all spec'd up.

I'm struggling to find something that will give the same thrills, and still be usable all year round.

300bhp in a mid engined 2 seater is a lot of fun!

saying that, i did spot this which looks like it could be fun

Quick search reveals there's two on offer currently.

Thx chaps, some good calls there! Quite like the look of the VX220, and an Integra Type R is quite attractive. Ideally I don't want to be spending every weekend under the car with a bag of spanners as I'm no mechanic. It has to start first time so I can go out and get my adrenalin fix!

That's what's pointing me towards the Jap stuff initially. A caterham style car fits the bill perfectly but I'm not sure about these Tigers....If they've been set up by a numpty......
