Transporting a new TV - Ok to do flat?

Transporting a new 40” LED TV, so it will be boxed etc

Ok to transport lying flat in an estate? Or does it really need to be upright?

LED's are fine transported flat. Only Plasma's have problems and need to be upright.

On researching.....

Can be stored flat but the problem is the vibration from driving can damage the screen. As it's a bit more than a couple of miles I'll just have to jump in the Wifes car.

99% of LCDs are not glass panels, hence why they are OK laying flat.

You woudn't carry a 4ft sheet of 2mm glass anything but upright, same for a plasma, too much load, plastic LCD is fine though.

Yeah, they won't break through a stress flex like glass does, but they also don't like having something hurled at them, this can crack the lcd panel behind.

I got a Sony 46" LCD flat in the back of a 2009 Fiesta and drove it (very steadily) 7 miles home. It's been fine for three months so far. I did avoid one road with speed bumps though!

Sony don't use glass unless it is there gorilla glass, so would have been fine.

I have driven with Panny plasmas layed flat and a few times with 50" Kuros, never had a problem.
Just need to be sensible.

I think it is more for truck companies when they put on the box, don't lie flat, as they tend to pile them high, and don't exactly take it easy with their loads.

father in law works for a tv repair company they transport all their plasmas upright and LCDs any old way
