Hi All,

Just looking at new shape Disco's from around 2006. Do you need to worry about milages over 100k on these? Assuming full service history and well maintained etc.

Trying to work out if they would make a good second car.

As long as it has been serviced, it should be fine. Just make sure some of the big stuff has been done: Gearbox oil & cam-belt.

Basic mechanicals are very tough, engines will run way over 400k+ with correct servicing.
Autobox should be flushed every 50-75k.

Mine is nearly 10 now and has 128k. It got a very thorough overhaul at 117k, i did a full suspension and brake refresh and it drives SO much better again.

HSE auto is the best spec for them. They can benefit from a good remap as they are a bit slow as standard. Mine will get one done when funds allow. It's not terrible but i went from a remapped td4 freelander and it's slow compared to that.

Plenty of good ones out there, plenty of good specialists to keep them in top condition. Don't believe the horror stories and you DON'T need to lift the body to do belts or turbos. Anyone who say's otherwise should be ignored.

They are heavy, so expect mid 20s on fuel, VED is £285 for pre march 06, £500 for post. Most people fit AT tyres as they last much longer than usuals, are great for all conditions and can actually be cheaper to buy than normal ones.
Factor maybe a grand a year for running costs and general slush fund for anything. May sound steep but tyres can be £5-700 alone depending on what you go for.

On Disco3.co.uk there is a site sponser called Advanced Factor's. Many of us buy our parts from him as the parts are cheap but high quality and i don't think there has been any complaints about the service or the standard of the parts sold. I have one of his service kits sitting in the garage ready to go on mine. Air, fuel, pollen and oil filter and 6 litres of Castrol oil delivered was £70.
