Has anyone managed to have a positive development from a (probably mild!) traffic accident such as a new lover, a husband/wife/partner or perhaps a new job?

Bought a mk6 golf last year, got it at a good price as the salesman was down on targets and the rear bumper was a bit tatty (rest was mint though)

48 hours later I got rear ended. Got a new bumper out of it so now have a car with virtually no marks at all! Winner (sort of)

It was minor enough to survive and major enough for me to rethink and not have the almost inevitable fatal I was heading for.

Bought a brand new BMW 325Ci in 2004 - 2 years and 10 months later my wife aquaplaned it into the central reservation of the M62 writing it off. Positive is the £300 I spent on GAP meant I got back every penny I paid for it.

The link may be somewhat tenuous to some...

In 2009 I bought my first proper sportsbike, four weeks later I wrote it off in a combination of spirited riding and an oncoming vehicle drifting over the central solid white lines

The resulting crash wasn't too major, but I was unconscious for a minute or so, and as I sat in plaster for six weeks it caused me to re-think my life and what would have been had I not woken up in the ditch next to my bike, if that loud "CLANG" I remember as I hit the road sign was the last thing I ever heard...

Anyway, 18 months later I'd bought my KTM Adventure S (think Paris Dakar), travelled to the Elephant Rally, then did ten glorious days in Morocco

All of this culminated in me deciding I'd always loved boats, but never had the balls to get into them, so in the middle of the biggest recession of my lifetime I resigned a safe steady job and went to France to work on superyachts.

That's where my wife and I met, fell in love and ended up back settled in the UK, I get my kicks racing Contessa 32s now, and life is pretty awesome...

If I'd not had that accident, I doubt my life would be anywhere near as full as it is now, and the resulting experiences have caused me to develop massively as a person as well...
