Whilst the weather has taken a turn for the worst, which is typical now that i have finally got my bonnet backbanghead i thought i might take the opportunity to remove the sump and fix what looks like another area where i have had some oil leaking.

So gasket or no gasket, whats the view?

Not sure if it has one on at the moment, but when i try to tighten them they are solid!

I have use a new gasket every time ive removed the sump, cork or the paper type, i put a little instant gasket on both surfaces and refit but dont over tighten the fixings, this will cause leaks.

As Campbell says, the cork gaskets compress in use and generally weep a little, you can get away with a sneaky tweak of the bolts once or twice but after that it's new gasket time.
