Just before a car alarm went off in the street outside, and as I was on my feet I popped my head out 'just in case'. Then it occurred to me I have no idea what my alarm actually sounds like. Thankfully it's never been triggered through incident or fault. I can't think I ever heard it on my last car either.

So ... do you?

Was sat in the office a couple of months ago cursing the car alarm that was sounding every 30 seconds.
Then got a call from reception as it was mine, right underneath the board meeting window boxedin

So yes.

I only discovered recently when I popped to the station to pick up train tickets and locked my other half in the car because I'd forgotten she was there.

I've done that!

Went to the shops for a couple of bits and bobs and there were a few undesirables around, so I locked the car forgetting the motions sensors would set the alarm off, she wasn't best pleased when I returned to the racket she was sitting in!

For the first few weeks of owning my Jag the alarm kept going off, what seemed to be randomly. I'd stomp out into the street looking for someone who'd set it off, but there was no-one there other than annoyed neighbours. After a week of this I started seeing 'Boot Open' messages on the display, so I dug out the soldering iron and fixed a broken wire in the boot loom.

I can tell you exactly what an S Type alarm sounds like from 50 paces now

Yes, it sounds exactly like every other car alarm which isn't greatly helpful.

My E30 has an automatic re-arming function, even with the doors unlocked, as part of its Clifford alarm. Found this out very shortly after purchase, as I left two mates sitting in the car while I nipped into a shop. Remember thinking, while I was queuing to pay, that someone's car had a number of very distinct and loud alarm sounds!

Guilty of that too! Do it rather a lot actually. When I lock the car I normally check it to make sure it locked but if she's there I don't. The strange force of habit I've developed it to hit the button twice again as I put the key in my pocket to double check for some odd reason.

She's now cottoned on and sits perfectly still while I'm in the shop laugh

I know my alarm rather well actually, every so often the car decides it doesn't want to open with the remote. The only way in is to use the solid key but the only lock is on the passenger door... It only unlocks that one door too so you have to crawl in, put the key in the ignition, get the steering lock off and put ignition on to make it shut up. Then reach over and unlock the drivers door to get in it.
Bit of a laugh when it happens on the drive. Not so funny when you have parked in Glasgow close against a wall so you have 6 inches of room. Looks rather dodge as I try and squeeze in enough to unlock the doors and shut it up...

In this case it was made worse by the fact, having never heard my car alarm before, I simply assumed it was someone else and continued to stand in the queue for the ticket machine whilst everyone stared at her like she'd tried to steal it.

I only discovered my car had an alarm when I was out of the country and my mrs texted me to ask how to disable it as it kept going off. No idea why it was playing up, all the windows were closed and it's not done it since.

Me too, stopped at a motorway services for a pee and left a colleague sat in the car. Force of habit I locked the car on getting out, then remembered he was still in the car so unlocked it again. Completely forgot that if you unlock it and don't open a door it automatically locks itself a little while later. Came back from the loo to see him looking rather embarrassed sat in the car with the alarm going off biggrin
