2008 CLS - Center console glove box lid just fell off !!!
Discussion
Hi All,
I have a problem as in title in that the lid has come free from the center console box.
At first it wouldn't close properly and then came off completely.
I have tried to refit it but it appears that the button on the passengers side is stuck in and so is responsible in not allowing the lock to reset.
Any ideas welcome or as I'm in Germany I can pop along to a local MB dealer and complain that things don't fall off on my TVR

(fact)Is this the one that serves as an armrest? If it is, I left the kids in my car for 10 minutes a few years ago, and found it jammed open, with the catch pins (which also serve as hinge pins, as it opens from both sides)protruding and unable to close. I suppose if you managed to get both catches operating at once (although I think they interlock) you could lift it off. From memory, a few minutes fiddling pressing catches and detents got it back in place and no problems since - I think if you can get one side in and acting as a hinge, the other side may play ball.
It is fixable. I was given a CLS to try and break shortly after they came out in UK. A very robust car and this glovebox lid was the only thing I managed to break (funnily enough, when I then bought one I had 7 years of ownership and never a problem).
I seem to recall that the trick was actually to try and get corners on passenger (not that it matters) in first the then a bit of vertical pressure on the front and rear of the other to get it to slot it. But then it wasn't my car so I could use more force than I would normally have been comfortable with.

just shows what a solid well designed car the first gen CLS is
Yes, this little issue bugged me quite a bit because I like the car so much.It seems to prefer doing a ton on the autobahn than the typical 80 Nd feels like it can do it all day.
Well actually it did last week when I drove back to Germany.
