I use Autolite APP63 in my 3000S with a Crane XR3000 electronic ignition. They seem to be a good heat range and the double platinum seems to keep them from fouling. My engine has 133k miles and uses a little oil.

Nowt wrong with good old copper NGKs. Iridium are good for emissions and last longer, but they're also much more prone to fuel fouling (and much more expensive).

Another vote for the NGK 6' here, tried the equivalent iridiums, they became too hot on higher revs causing pre-detonation (state of tune dependable, obviously)

From Memory Frank thats why i fitted 7s but will have to check as they are a cooler plug its not the cars that have changed over the years but the fuel you buy thats changed

Good idea, I trust these guys.

Their TVR records don't go back far enough, try 3.0 Granada.

If anyone can convince me an £8 spark plug will make a noticeable difference over a £2 one in an "old thumper" like the Esssex I'll get my wallet out wink

Probably true, chemical proporties of fuel hasn't changed, but they add all kinds of crap to it ! (like ethanol)
The state of tune of the engine has changed, but still found she ran better on copper 6' than equivalent iridiums
Mind you, that is not to say that there aren't better performing plugs...

the plugs are far from the only factor in that, pre-ignition and fuel to name a few others, but yes, the 7' tend to run hotter in the essex
