Fibreglass bodied with a flat top V8 engine, anybody know?


The car is in West Virginia so may be an American special, but equally could be of European origin.

Looks like an altered Muntz Jet or an attempt to create something similar

At first glance I thought the front wings were from a '55 Plymouth or '56 Lincoln.

Those headlights are reminiscent of the mid-fifties Plymouths & Lincolns, but this car's are fairly flat rather than angled forward.

There were a few American boat-builders who turned their fibreglass skills towards car bodies in the 1950s (Glasspar, Woodill Wildfire, etc).

One of the best places to look is usually http://www.forgottenfiberglass.com , but no luck this time.

Of course, it may not be American. This 1956 Leningrad Sport Custom was a one-off Russian creation, but looks very American.

My guess is that it's one of the numerous proprietary GRP shells being sold in the States at that time, which has been modified by owners over the years for a more individual appearance. Not a difficult task with GRP.
