Hire car help required!
Discussion
Hi All,
Been a long term Pistonheads fan, but I'm new to the forum seen.
OK, me and her are getting married at Christmas. The cars I could have had for the cost of the wedding is mortifying, but thats life. OK so I need a motor of reasonable quality on the Friday in Devon, to have over the last weekend before Christmas, and ideally drop off on the Monday at Heathrow before going on Honeymoon. It needs 4 doors ideally as it will be taking bridesmaids at some stage.
I have had some scary prices for things I would really like, say a Quattroporte. I can hire an E class, or 5 series from a hertz etc, this would be £350 ish.
I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas or could advise me.
Thanks

Or you might get lucky if they need a really nice car (nicer than the one you picked) taking to Heathrow. It's cheaper for them to give you an upgrade rather than take the car out of service and pay someone to drive it/transport it to London. I know someone who was driving one way from Texas to California and picked a boggo Mustang as their option. They ended up getting a Camaro SS with California plates on
.
.Hi All,
I just thought that I would update you on the wedding car. I ended up going to my local Thrifty / Dollar franchise and booked a jag xf (or equivalent) for just over 200 quid.
I called them a couple days before collecting it, to check that I would be getting a jag not a mondeo or whatever. They said no jags, but I could have a 520d, which sounded rather dull. I had a bit of a moan, and they upped me to a 528i m sport, which I was pleased with. Dark, almost black colour which was suitable for the occasion. It only had 800 miles on it, but there was no danger of me running it in.
I was quite impressed with it, and I get the impression from the 4 days of hammering it that you'd have to do something totally moronic to crash it. I banged through about 600 miles over the weekend, so I think I had my value out of it.
The manager at Exeter Thrifty was excellent too I might add.
Thanks for your suggestions all.
