Morning all,

Had a quick browse round but can't really find much.

Is it possible to hire a car in the UK if your I ser 21? I'm 20 at the moment and was looking at hiring one, but the majority of places are over 25.

If anyone has ever rented one under that age some help greatly appreciated!

Thanks

21-24 is certainly possible and usually carries a young driver surcharge. I've only ever hired vans at 21-24 though.

Avis state that the min age is 17

9.6 Driver Age - The minimum age to rent with Avis is 17 years old. Please note for rentals in Republic of Ireland there is no minimum rental age requirement.

Vans for me too, I had to pay £20 to the guy on the hire desk when I was 19/20, I'm not sure whether that was for extra insurance or his back pocket to change the DOB on his form. Still drove out with it OK

Normal every day cars should be fine, I'm guessing if you're seeing over 25 you're looking for something a bit more tasty?

It's getting much more difficult for those under 25 to hire cars/vans these days and under 21 I think you're going to need to stick to the dodgy backstreet hire places rather than any of the big reputable ones!

Pretty sure you can hire through Avis from the age of 17, however you do get charged quite a substantial amount if you are under 25.

That's insane - it looks like you can, for £11 + VAT a day surcharge. Up to a Focus sized car!

Bet you can't waive the £1000 excess though
