For the last month we've had bags of rubble and a cement mixer left on our drive after some repair work to the house. They aren't really in the way but they aren't the most decorative of things to have outside the front of the house.

Despite promises from the builder to 'move them this week' and me sending him a text asking him to clear them, they are still sat there.

If I were to send him a message along the lines of 'clear them this week before I start charging you storage', if I wanted to put my parts on could I legally invoice him?

I don't intend to, but if he laughs it off as joke I'd like to be able to point out that I'd be well within my rights to charge him if he doesn't buck his ideas up.

This. But give him 3 days notice to come and get it.

Getting rid of rubbish costs builders time and money, hence all the ones I've ever used have been similar to yours.

An alternative tack would be to ask him for some money off the job if you take the stuff to the tip yourself.

Where do you live? I'm amazed a mixer hasn't been nicked if you don't have a gated driveway!

While we're roughly on the subject, some fupper has nicked the part of the mixer frame that joins the legs together. Left the legs and the mixer from my garage. Thanks for that.

I'll happily give the cement mixer away. If anyone wants it PM me and I'll send you my postcode.

He keeps banging on about how he's got a skip at another job down the road that the stuff can go into, so there's no additional expense for him.

The amount of bags would fill the back of a VW Caddy type van - we're not talking huge amounts.

Simple enough. Tell him it has to be cleared by (whatever date) or you will take it to the tip and deduct the costs from his invoice.
I'd suggest putting it in writing.

Okay, to keep those of you with immature minds happy, a builder took his trousers down, did a blow off and then left a big plop on our driveway. Can I charge him for the toilet paper?

A builder once did a st in our green recycling bin.

A strongly worded call to his company and he was back a few days later scrubbing our bin clean in the street smile

Sliced bread for cleaning FTW. Used to do it when fishing. Also, fish would eat the poo-ey bread.
