At last, my 156 no longer squeals like a pig in an abbatoir! The offending article turned out to be the rubber bush at the end of the front nearside wishbone, which had somehow twisted in the joint. Unfortunately it's apparently not possible to just replace the bush, so I had a new wishbone put in yesterday (£160 by local specialist).

I believe that the bushes can be replaced individually, given the appropriate equipment. However, I also believe that Alfa refuse to supply anything less than a complete wishbone, so its a bit academic unless you go for after-market poly bushes instead.

The real problem is that the now silent suspension merely gives emphasis to sundry other rattles and squeaks that I hadn't noticed before. As a result, a harmless buzz from somewhere behind the dashboard is now driving me utterly nuts.

My Local Alfa dealer charged me £125.00 inc VAT to fit them to my 147.

Actually, I had a really anoying intermittent dash rattle for a while. I think I've finally found the cause, as a melted fuse appeared in the driver's footwell. A thorough investigation of the fusebox under the dash revealed that all necessary fuses were in place, but one of the spares was missing.

I'm, assuming that at some point (servicing, ICE install etc.) somebody's blown a fuse and swapped it for a spare from the holder rather than getting a new one from stores. The melted mess that is the blown one obviously didn't sit too well in the holder, so it dropped out and has been rattling about inside the fusebox ever since!
