I've used various cars with these and have never understood PH hatred. Until now.

What the fk were VW playing at with the Passat, Sometimes it lets go itself, sometimes you need to press the switch yourself. Reverse park downhill and the bd will slap the brake on whenever it fking feels like it. That's not embarrassing with a queue behind oneself.

The rest of the car is dull, but competent. I'm amazed at how bed their implementation is...

If you think that is bad, try a Vauxhall one.

The car may not be where you parked it, they roll off quite often.

Try a Land Rover one. The car will be where you left it, it will also be there for some time after you had wanted to leave due to it being stuck on.

The one on my C class merc is quite sensible. It has a conventional foot operated handbrake for parking. No problem, been like that for decades. Also has an electric one, only works with ignition on, and set by a harder prod on the foot brake when stationary. Releases when you accelerate again.

Try removing your seat belt just before it comes to a complete stop (i.e pulling up at a fuel station) and then chase it down the forecourt as the auto-hold doesn't work if you do this...

No issues with the one on my XF. It has an automatic gearbox though.

Honestly don't see the problem, have used them on various cars and had no issues. Are you sure it's not user error? The best was on a 2005 Laguna DCI I had.

All of them are fking hatefull piles of st. Even worse with the vw system is that the motor is built into the caliper so you have to use diagnostic equipment to back of the electric motor so you can change rear pads also they mental money if they go wrong.

There is absoulty no reason for them other than making more money for the dealerships when they go wrong.

Isn't that the hill-hold feature? You should be able to switch that off.

I did. But I did not understand why it was messing with my reversing manoeuvre. Surely its not so dumb that it can't work out that when in reverse you want to go backwards.

Have one on the QQ. It works ok, other than one moment when it was very reluctant to let go recently.

I must admit I don't really see the point. It's fine now the car is relatively new, I can't help but think they could well be a nightmare in a few years time.

Electric handbrakes in my opinion only work on automatic vehicles.

Mine on my golf works very well tbh although I'd rather a proper handbrake.

Very good with the dsg system, soon as you come to a halt it fires the handbrake on,dab of the accelerator and it's off and your back on your way.

Lol, it just sounds like you haven't got a clue how to use it. Read the manual.

It's a hire car. I'm not reading the manual (if it's even there)...
