Hello all, brand new member here so don't be too harsh!!

"Superman" M135i owner here. I've had mine on a 2 year business contract hire and it will be coming up to the end in the new year so its time to start looking again, but unsure what to look at new.

I've loved the the M1'er, annoying Aston Martins, 600cc bikes and the like became a past time of mine but I did find it a little clinical, and I know it sounds weird but I felt she never had a character so I'm sure I don't want to extent the lease or get another.

The question is which car to have next. I have agreed upon a couple of parameters.

The problem with having plenty of Pferdestärke as we know is once you've had some you can't go backwards, so the car will have to have a bare minimum 300bhp.

I also think I need something a little bigger, a bit more space in the back is required, but not too big.

Because I have a another car for work this is a SDP so fuel economy is less important, so since its a evening/weekends motor I'd like it a little bit naughty.

However it cant just be a lotus or so, it's got to be practical. A lot of my driving I've done with the M lite car has is 3 hour stints so it has to be a good motorway cruiser and at its most efficient on the motorway. Ideally I'd like it over 30mpg but would consider lower for something really really tasty.

Since it will be a business contract hire through my own company its means budget wise I'm 'reasonably' flexible on monthly payments. Having had a look at the market the new Merc C63 is my dream choice, but I think it might just be beyond the budget.

So to give you all and idea it's going to be between the £30,000-£65,000 price band.

I've also been thinking about Alpina B3 or D3 but the monthly payments are alot in comparison to a M3, must be the discounts or residuals.

I know most people would envy my position and it's certainly a first world problem, but I'd welcome all suggestions.

Thanks again!

Porsche Macan. Top end petrol model not that far behind a Cayman for track times. Price works. Stealth machine....

You might want to revisit your attitude to driving before putting yourself and others at risk with another fast car. Annoying other vehicles? Grow up, mate.

This is a good call IMHO. If I was in this position I would seriously consider an XFR.

Another idea: check out the new Maserati Ghibli in petrol V6 form. It looks stunning, and I believe that it is closer in size to the other cars that you are considering but is a more interesting choice.

I never thought of the Macan, might be worth a look.... Not sure if I want a SUV size vehicle though. It has a higher road position right?

Funnily enough I have a test drive with JCT500 Maserati tomorrow afternoon, so I'll see how it goes.

I do like the look off the Jaguar but I've always found them a bit more loose than the Germans counterparts. I'd have to try one of them out first. Don't think they have any test cars till next year.

Glad to see your all friendly!!! Perhaps next time you ought understand what context the term annoying is in this instance. Before making flippant remarks behind the vail of anonymity, you have no idea how I drive.

Oh and by the way, I'm not your mate. I'm not sure if you'll have many mates with a poison attitude like yours.

I know you're coming out of a M135i, but would highly recommend a M235i. Driving it back to back with an M4 an M6, IMO, feels the nicest overall for performance and handling. Much better than the M135i's I've driven (admittedly not spent too much time in one).

You will find the M5's will be cheaper than an M3 due to high residual and bigger discounts. Plus a way more equipped car.

Stick with BMW if it's a fun car you're after, but then again, I am a little biased.

I LOL'd at you thinking you can play with 600cc bikes - no you can't. I can't think of a situation where the bike wouldn't murder you if the rider's trying.

If you drive sensibly and safely and 'annoy' other drivers, you might want to ask why nobody likes you, mate smile

I believe there are offers from BMW for both the M5 and M6, worth checking out the M forum.

Fellow superman M135i here!

Just out of interest, have you been given the opportunity to buy it? If so, what are they going for at 2yrs old?

It's probably not an option for you as a business user, but we're set on keeping ours. Replacing it would be very difficult.

Having said that, the 4 series looks great!

Im well aware of the capabilities of a 600cc bike. I know in a straight drag he's going to thrash me. Get on some of the twister roads around here and get baiting the leather romper suited boys and your still in there rear view mirror. Its a warm feeling knowing you can beat 85% of the cars you see on everyday roads, surely we've all that feeling. Ive had my M lite debadged and no exterior trinkets so It's been a real sleeper car.

I haven't asked them for a price yet and I usually don't. But I got asked the same question on the 1 series forum so I might have too. The last time I asked was 2 cars back, a 330d touring, the figure escapes me but it wasn't much off the retail price so I haven't bothered asking since.

I do have a soft spot for BMW's and Ive seen some fantastic deals around on the M5 but I've had 3 BMW's and would quite like a change. I probably would of been happy with an M5 but after I read about the new C63AMG I cant get it our of my head and would fancy a Merc, never had on before.

But I cant see Mercedes discounting that model any time soon. Does anyone know what Merc are like on discounts for new models?

Picking up on the tractor reference? Safe to say I don't drive them but am involved with them. But not with head gaskets!

I really would stop talking about you vs. bikes otherwise this thread will just go south.

I think I'd get the new M3 in your position.

Too busy with failed Autopowr transmissions, EGR valves and variable geometry turbos to get busty with head gasket failures then?

Car v 600cc bike? laugh

First off. People who look for reactions tend to go away when they don't get any wink

Far more importantly your next car. Macan is a mini SUV but performs and handles very well so if you like German built cars it is a nice alternative to a BMW. I have had a C63 Amg and would certainly recommend it.

Fun problem to have, but bizarrely stressful when there is so much choice out there.

Couldn't agree more, get this sense that you missing a really obvious car and glad to see the sensible ones coming out of the wood work!

To be honest the new shape C63 is my favourite. Its looks like an absolute weapon. I've contacted my local dealer about one. As I was writing this they just called me. They have just been sent all the information from MB corporate and said they can sort out a test drive on the current 'coupe' model as it were, so looking forward to that one.

If it's within my budget then its a no brainer, which I am praying it is.

Test drove the Ghilbi on Saturday.

Didn't get a huge amount of time with it. about 35 mins, mix of city, country(ish) roads and a quick blast up the motorway.

It was the diesel version. First impressions is the size of it. seems bigger than a E class or 5 series, somewhere in between the XF & XJ size wise.

However saying that its really a four seater. The propshaft has made the rear middle seat null & void (unless you have no legs) its that big, but very comfortable car and would take four fully sized adults with ease. A huge boot, at least 3 or maybe 4 dead bodies would fit inside.

Driving along it potters around very comfortably with real ease, very similar to a XF its not a car that urges you on. I didn't really get an opportunity to push on any winding roads but it feels very big on smaller roads and it doesn't really want to drive fast on them, It would be a fantastic on the motorway.

The most interesting part is the noise, it does not sound like a diesel, when you put it in sport mode the noise it makes sounds almost like a petrol, the engineers have spent a lot of time tuning the exhaust and to be fair they have done a good job of removing the dieselesque noise. When you put your foot down the power is very linear, it doesn't really push you back into your seat, the torque seems very spread out, you might not feel the torque but you look at the speedo and its moving quickly through the numbers to please most.

Overall I don't think its for me, it feels very big and it's happy to drive around at slow speeds, it doesn't really urge you on which which is not what I'm looking for. However it is a thing of beauty both inside and out, the leather feels luxury and so do the woods, I wouldn't mind be driven round in it either if I were a passenger, you definitely know your in a quality premium product, they feel better than the interiors of a BMW or a Merc.

I think if your a fan of the XF this car will appeal to you, I would sum it up as the Italian answer to a XF.

It was worth the trip as well to walk around the Ferraris as well! When you seem them up close you realise they are a real work of art.
