Whats your approach to mileage v enjoying the car?
Discussion
I ask as was looking at some dealer cars for sale in the AMOC mag - a 2001 DB7 Vantage on 11,000 miles is priced at £14k more than a same year one on 50,000 miles.... I appreciate the owner may have had several cars and might not have been 'avoiding using' the car but for me the outlay v enjoyment equation doesn't add up?
I know I'm still in the throes of first love but my insurance mileage limit of 5k (and warranty limit of 6k) seem more than adequate to keep it 'low mileage' and avoid it seizing up unloved in the garage!
Really interested in others' thoughts.

I drive my car whenever I can....mileage is not an issue with me.....bought it to drive not to store....
Me too Tony. It's not a daily drive but I rarely miss an opportunity to go somewhere in it. Off to Scotland on Thursday to Scotties Highland Hoon then further North for a week. Get out in it and enjoy one of the best motoring experiences there is.
I don't drive mine nearly as much as I would like to. The car is nearly 5 years old and has only done 8000 miles. This is not due to me trying to preserve the value but due to having two young kids and finding myself mainly in the wifemobile with all of its car seats and general children friendly extras. At least it still looks like new.

Like you - several cars and other competing pressures on time and life. Now 2.5 years old and just over 3k miles. Value not a primary concern.CarbonV12V said:

I know I could not care about the value because I do not intend to sell. I do find myself on a beautiful day trying to decide if I should be in my car driving or on the golf course using my membership and in fact I end up playing football in the garden with the children. Or even worse being dragged out to the shops.DAMIT said:
There's a white 2007 Vantage Roadster for sale on PH with ONLY 900 miles on it, full service history some years only 50 miles apart.
Shame
Spend a couple of hundred quid on a full size photograph, stick it on the garage wall, go and look at it a couple of times a week, save a lot of dosh!Shame

I think enjoy your Aston. I start each year saying I will keep to the 5k mile limit for my insurance and for the second year running I have had to increase it to 7.5k because we are just having so much fun in it
it will doubtless impact on the value of the car but that will be for someone else to worry about as she is a keeper.

When I had a TVR I remember a dealer frowning as it was my fabulous daily 80 mile commuter car. I explained that the alternative was getting up earlier and spending more to stand on a miserable train! Kept me so much happier!
Anyway really think she's a keeper (gonna be ugly\slow in 5 years!!??) So it shouldn't really matter... Ohh and its a family car...even tried the dog in the hatchback let alone the two kids in the rear :-)

Certain journeys e.g the supermarket and the local pub, taxiing the sprogs and sitting in the outside lane of a boring motorway are simply not worth doing in anything tasty....due to the combination of you may as well just use your shed or snotter as its less hassle worrying about leaving it and piling on the miles on your p and j. This is especially so in the winter when something that needs to be driven...errr isn't really being driven properly due to the s
tty and slimey road conditions.
In contrast,, going away say to Wales or the Lakes especially in good weather is an opportunity to make up for lost time by using your car in its prime, and the mileage you haven t done during the winter months etc can be increased without feeling guilty younarenhammering the value....

Look closely and there is a 2008 DBS with under 1000 miles on the market. Anyhow I use mine as much as I can which in these cold conditions can be a little tricky Shame

free time is the issue, and a few toys to spread the fun mileage around. Have done nearly 70k miles in my Vantage since 2007, although in recent years struggle to do 3k miles a year. All fun, sunny day miles though. Seems a bit of a waste now to do hundreds of motorway miles per week in it.
Still feels special to drive, even more so than when used daily for 15k miles a year commuting...you can get a bit blase and quickly become accustomed to drive one everyday ....but then what do you drive for something special at the weekend?
I still reckon the best upgrade Ive done is driving something mundane/different for commuting
