Hello everyone,,this is probably a well worn question, but thinking of dipping a toe into cerbera ownership and was wondering what the general yearly costs might be?? Reading loads of cerbe posts i have heard the figure 3 to 6 grand a year banded about,,i know if the engine decides to go pop then theres a big bill, but say the engine had recently been done, what kind of yearly bills are you cerbera owners faced with??

Who's doing the work, you or someone you're paying?

Most consumables are moderately priced, although a few things might alarm you such as rear discs £400, and the clutch pack that has doubled in price in the last 18 months to £1k.

The elephant in the room is the chassis. If you can buy a car that has already had a body off chassis rebuild then that would be a major expense ticked off.

As previously said the chassis is the big cost, as along as the engine is good.

I've owned mine for 3 years. There is always something to do but 95% of the jobs can be done by a diy mechanic. Remember these cars are heading towards being 20 years old and so things will need changing. If you are going to pay a garage to service/maintain then budget a minimum of £1k a year and maybe more! But I would recommend doing some yourself.

The parts are generally not expensive, just find the original source of the part i.e. land rover etc.

The main points to check are chassis, engine, gearbox and diff. If those are good the rest is manageable.

Personally I think they are a huge amount of performance car for the money. A modern M3 will be faster but they look relatively dull in comparison and 2 or 2 times the price.

By the way, go for the V8 (in my opinion).

I haven't regretted buying mine at all, but keep some cash in your back pocket to maintain.

£3.5k a year is a figure that's often been quoted and it isn't too wide of the mark. One year it'll probably be a minor service, next year could be clutch, tappets and tyres.

I've had mine for over 4 years and in all that time I've probably spent £5k on it including a front end respray and new alram/immobiliser, so for me, about £1200 a year and it's still faster than a modern M3 wink

Agree on the chassis and parts, as for the m3 being faster, oh no it isn't smile

Looks quite nice and honest.

Engine rebuilt by STR8Six by the look of it so no issues there.

Buy on condition, mainly the chassis condition as a body off refresh can be north of £10K by the time it is finished.

I'll give you the same advices had, stick £250 a month in a savings account and that's £3k a year which I was told how much it cost.
It's cost me nothing like that, but it means you have the money saved for a big bill when it comes,

If you want to maintain a service history for future resale value, then most specialists have their prices shown on their websites but a 6k service on the V8 typically costs between £350~400 and a 12k service costs around £800. Most people don't do that milage but it would be normal to expect to see a 6k service one year and a 12k the next alternating.

Insurance, tax etc are pretty sensible if you go to a specialist broker that understands how specialist cars are used - even more so if the car has modifications such as exhausts or aftermarket dampers which most have.

Mine covers about 6000 miles a year, servicing is done by one of the well known service centres, insurance includes business use.

Looking at the guide on PH it looks like mine has cost around £9110.00 per year all in.

yikes

Oh and nothing major has broken yet hehe

I remember making such reliability claims right up to the point Jools found some mushroomed valve stem tops !
I hope you're touching wood preferably a forest full.
