I use XP, but the critical point is to get it to connect using COM1 port.

ok so ive used the alternative software but not sure its working really.

it only connects if i disconnect usb close app, then connect usb then start app.

tried about 20 times, sometimes lasts for 2 secs then loses connection, then cant find again. just managed to get it to run for 2 mins without dropping connection.

rpm is wrong says its 12000, i once saw it correctly say 3xxx, air temp is -30 or other wrong values. crank sensor and wiring is highlighted in red, both lambda and tps flash error on and off in the fault box but not consistently. also barometric sensor, basically all sensors flash on and off with errors. rpm is wrong and it keeps dropping connection to ecu.

is this a case of the software not working correctly as it's unlikely that every sensor on the car is broken?

I have a video i can edit to show if anyone can help by looking at vid?

Looks like there are connection problems. The software is now nearly 1 year old and works for a lot of people with S6 and AJPs without problems. Could you try a different USB/Serial Adaptor ?

Is it likely connection from pc to ecu?

There was an extention usb cable in car about 1 meter maybe, i bypassed that and it seemed to work marginally better. there is just usb to d connector on ecu, should I try replacing that?

You have to connect the USB/Serial Adaptor before starting the software anyway...

just tried again checking connection to ecu. all fine unless cable is bad. will have to get a new one to check.

one thing every time the app did connect and then drop it kept saying at the bottom connected to mbe type and then the type was different every time, sometimes L or I, or ABCDE, or #347124numbers etc?

That should be the proof, that the connection is bad. The first thing the Software does ist to 'ask' the MBE for it's type. this should be something starting with 941...., if not, there's something wrong in the communication with the MBE.

I programmed a 'loose' check for the type of ECU, so the software will work with a lot of different version, even ones I don't know yet. But this could lead to the strange behaviour you have.

I have just seen on the other thread about your car that 8mm plug leads have been fitted, these often cause running problems, there have been many threads about cars running poorly after having new plugs and leads and it is often because of the new leads that have been fitted.

These ones work well on my car.
