Does anyone know if a Vixen S4 bonnet will fit, with not too much fettling, a 3000M/Taimar. I believe at the time of the S4 it was using the newer 3000M chassis which was wider than the previous Vixen models so fingers crossed and all that.

Thanks in anticipation of a learned reply....Cheers.

You really need to look at a Vixen S4...the lower chassis rail is highly visible (they sometime get chin spoilers to hide this) and at the scuttle the spreader bar across the bonnet (and as such the bonnet) is much more curvaceous. If you look through the threads, there are pictures of 2 cars, one orange race car that can bee seen with both the M bonnet AND then a Vixen bonnet and one blue 'in development' car. (someone with time on their hand might pop along and find the images/links).

Andrew that looks like a 2500...
This is the orange one, that was for sale last year running a Griffith bonnet

You can see all the front chassis rail and just see that the scuttle area does not match.
This is not on either a Vixen or an M chassis...and has the cross brace removed by the looks of it as it is very shallow in shape.

Sorry but l have to ask this.... Why do you want to fit one to the other? What's wrong with fitting the M/Taimar bonnet it came with???

The bonnet I have does not fit well at all, does not 'blend' to the scuttle shape, has very limited access when open unless front wheels are on blocks. The chrome bumperettes are not inline, they dip to the front (like other 3000s/Taimars) due to manufacture. Also, as a personal view only, I think the more curvaceous Vixen era bonnets are more pleasing to the eye. Not necessarily all the vents but the general smooth lines not the next step to the wedge.
Thanks for the feedback so far. Most appreciated.

The fit to the scuttle is dictated by the spreader bar inside the bonnet and can be replaced/pegged/shaped to suit....IF you are running chrome bumpers, then they should fit either flush on 71-73 cars, or need a fitting kit to stack them off the car correctly, granted, that IF the car is low on the road the bonnet does not open a great deal BUT if it is running at the correct ride height then it should be OK.
Some pictures would be a help.

We had the same issue on the Taimar so I had the brackets on the back moved to reduce the angle they pointed down and to bring them in more they are not quite flush but far better the bonnet opens depending on the ride height the Taimar is lower set up than my 3000s due to the set up for the drivers driving style my 3000s is slightly higher hence the bonnet rises more however both have quick release bonnets so make doing major work so much easier

on a Chimaera chassis? then I guess a Evolution chassis would fit too? although both will not be direct fit I guess, but I like those classic looks.
Going to be nice with those wide flares, I guess it gets a sweet V8 too?

You might need to join the TVRCC to see more of Geoff's build as there is thread running there...until appears, that they both retain TVR chassis, V8 engines and drivetrain along with the shell floor pans, and then the classic parts with additions.
There is a thread on PH for my250gt car.

There is another one thats being done at the moment that is going to be stunning there are a few pictures that have leaked on here over the last 12 months but no one seems to notice wink parts from every era of TVRs history nearly in one car apart from the engine and no car destroyed in its creation
However Geoffs will be interesting as well a good reason to join the TVRCC

thx, when I looked under my250gt I could remember more of that build, lately its a bit quiet around those builds with posting on PH I believe.
looks also like a lot of work, but very nice me thinks, ok maybe not 'original' but still a TVR.
