Hullavington airfield 7/11/14
Discussion
Hi all, i've just booked Hullavington for the 7th of Novemeber. I'm a novice track driver but have done Hullavington once before. Is anybody else heading down there for the day? It would be good to meet some track day veterans for some advice!
Also, i know you're not supposed to time your laps but i would like to see if i've improved a little over the day! What's a respectable time?
TIA
Andy

Hello,
Unfortunately had my last outing for the year but have been to hullavington several times. Good track but watch the brakes as there are several high speed stops per lap. The added bonus is the handling area which is good fun.
No idea what a good lap time is as the cars are so different. But if you want to improve get some tuition. I will be back next year in an orange Westfield with a 1.6 sticker on the back, feel free to say hello. We normally go in a group of Westfields and some cammo painted MX5s.

Thanks for the reply, yeah i was hoping to do this much earlier in the year but work commitments and problems with my car meant it has had to wait until now, i hope the weather is on my side! I've fitted minted 1155 brake pads with performance fluid so hopefully they hold out. i'm planning on putting a ABS cut off switch in today as it cuts in far too early in my VX220.
I was thinking about having some tuition, but i'm also trying to keep costs to a minimum. A friend of mine has offered to come along and give me some pointers so i'll probably take him up on that. This will hopefully be the first of many so i hope to meet you in the future!
Cheers

Hullavington is a good little circuit for the money.
Enjoy it.
Make sure you put some miles on the pads before the day. I have 1155's and they also need to be properly warmed up before they work effectively. I would suggest two warm-up laps at Hullavington to get all the temps up (tyres/pads and engine).
Finally, timing may result in for exclusion…it's not permitted on a track day. If you have a Go Pro or similar, you can time your laps retrospectively.

Thanks for the reply Mike,
I've had the pads fitted for a while so they should be fine. I will be sure to take it steady for the first few laps to make sure every thing is up to temp and i know the track layout. Talking of which, when i last did Hullavington it was a different layout to the video you kindly posted. Have they changed it or does it depend who you book with?
TIA

What a hilarious day. Started well with the gazebo destroying itself after 5 minutes, making it seem wetter than it actually was (but it was still very wet!) and the front brakes went metal to metal in the afternoon meaning an early end, but in between, it was great fun. The Clio was a perfect car for the conditions and despite lots of aquaplaning and huge puddles all over the place, I think the day was yet another excellent MSE day.
