Where can i buy bolts etc

The previous owner of my Chim kept it outside, never cleaned it inside or out, had never heard of Pistonheads but in all other respects was a nice guy.

I have been busying myself with some cosmetic/suedo-engineering work to combat the rust and dirt on the car. I want to replace some of the badly corroded bolts, nuts etc. I have tried Hell-frauds but (surprisingly) they don't have anything suitable.

Where can i get some at a reasonable cost, preferably over the internet but prepared to take a drive out?

If you know what you want, places like Namrick sell all sorts online for a reasonable price. Or if you don't mind paying for the convenience, you can just buy a mixed bucket from Demon Tweeks.

Mike, looks like youre local to Oxford.Try Toolmaster on Cowley Road,Oxford or theres a unit behind the Tescos in Cowley which I got my driveshaft bolts from,their name escapes my overcrowded little brain though!

just a thought but dont use stainless nuts and bolts they really dont work very well im sure some clever metallurgist type person will appear and explain why but after two or three times doing up and undoing the threads seem to weld themselves together and then the bolts shear ive tried it with lots of different types of stainless and it always seems to happen ok if you are using nuts and bolts but a massive problem in captives

Any old motor factor (ie one that supplies to the trade - not a high street shop) should be able to sort you out.

Just be carefull if you are changing high grade steel nuts & bolts for stainless steel in any highly loaded areas like suspension etc. Stainless steel bolts will not have the tensile strength or durability needed and might fail.

I suggest that you change things like jubilee clips for SS versions and other nuts and bolts on view under the bonnet that are only lightly loaded. But buy all your important bolts from an authorised TVR dealer.

I get my "cosmetic" bolts from classic car & bike type auto jumbles and fairs. Buy a copy of the Classic Car weekly newspaper (out on Thursdays) which lists all the fairs around the country. There are usually several SS fastener suppliers at these things. Take along a sample of what you need and they will usually match it and can supply SS spring, lock & plain washers as well. My favorite fair is the one held at the Newark Showground just off the A1 / A46 junction.
