Hi All,

With the heavy rain last night, which continued this morning, water from my driveway has seeped through the bottom of my garage door! Ok, so not a major crisis but water is about 12" into my garage.

The major contributing factor is that my driveway slopes gently towards the garage and when the drain that runs across the front of the garage gets full, when the rain is heavy, it overflows a little into the garage.

As the season changes, this will probably get worse.

Is there a mini sandbag shaped like a snake that I could put inside my garage door??

Any other recommendation?

I have two cars in storgae and I need to minimise the moisture getting in.

Have you cleared out the drain?

You could try one of these just inside the door:

or a thick rubber type that secures to the bottom of the door and makes a seal when closed.

Check the trap or bend at the end of the channel drain is clear as well.

My first suggestion would be the same as larry's; ensure the drain is clean.

As far as stopping the water; if its only very shallow I would do what my dad did as we have a similar issue. He has placed a strip of wood screwed to the ground the full width of the door opening and sealed around the underside and edges with window frame sealant. The wood has to be just thick/deep enough to stop the water so drving over it shouldn't be a problem.

Similar situation.

I lifted the drain cover and then just got busy with clearing out mud, grit and leaves. Then a broom pole to make sure it's clear as it enters the main drain. Mucky job but took half an hour and no issues since.

I solved a similar issue with one of these strips:http://www.weatherdefender.co.uk

A brush strip draught excluder will help a lot, also deters mice and leaves. Unlike anything solid the door won't get jammed if you get a lump of grit under there
