Permanent 12v Dash Supply for Remote Boot Release

Have bought a remote boot release for my 97 Chimaera.
It requires a permanent 12v supply - ideally near the drivers side below dash boot release button.
Anyone done similar and can recommend the best solution.

If you pull the stereo out there is a 12v live going to it, its not too tricky to feed into the drivers foot well.

Your cigarette lighter socket is 12v constant too, not hard I would think to isolate the correct wire as it enters the cabin from the door loom, and in the right place you new it.

I used the live feed to the horn as mine is permanently live. Easy to check and pops out really easily. Also straight forward to run the wire down through the cowl and onto wherever you need to from there.

Not linked into the alarm, but very happy with my Modwise boot release kit, very easy to fit and operate.

If you take the live from the interior light delay relay you'll find the supply terminal should only be live when the car has been unlocked, test with a meter to confirm you have the correct terminal.

This is ideal for a hidden external boot release switch like the badge one on a Cerbera as it'll be disabled when you lock & leave the car, you could even take it from the interior light itself, IIRC it's a purple wire but again a quick check with a meter will confirm this.

Thinking about it, if you have a later car with mirror mounted door release buttons taking your live from that circuit would be equally effective.

just a thought but I put door opening switch in the number plate recess to act as boot release

The buttons are still live when the car is locked (you can hear the solenoid operating, but the lock holds the door closed), so it wouldn't achieve the same effect.

Is there a permanent live on the dash lights button by your left knee. In which case its already by the driver.

Fair enough, I have a very late 1996 facelift car which was built just before the mirror mounted door release system came out.

TBH it seems odd TVR chose to wire it that way, but as we know TVR wiring can be a bit funky to say the least.

What I can tell you without any doubt is that the interior light only becomes live once you've unlocked the car, as I said before I think it's the purple wire from memory.

Any way, once you've wired your boot release switch to the interior light feed you can only use it after you've unlocked the car, I fitted a magnetic reed switch like model railway hobbyists use to switch points on the track when the train passes it.

Wire this little magnetically activated (normally open type) switch to the interior light circuit and fit it invisibly behind the numberplate, all you then need is a tiny magnet in your leather key fob which you pass over the known spot on your numberplate and the boot pops open.

This system has proved 100% reliable and makes accessing the boot a breeze compared with the stupid "key on" press the under dash button system TVR gave us.

Although I should point out my under dash button still works too if I need to pop the boot from the drivers seat, this is actually quite handy when I'm picking up the wife after one of her many shopping trips as it means I don't even need to get out to open the boot for her

I have to say my model railway magnetic reed switch boot opener is one of the best little mods I've done to the car, makes life so much easier
