Paper part of my d/l show SP30 (3pts) Jan 11, CU80 (3 pts) Sept 11, and SP30 (4pts) Jan 14.

So it looks like I've got 10 points but only 4 are really current, the others are "spent" aren't they?

So should I get a new d/l or don't the police take any notice of old convictions if they were to look? I hasten to say I've not been flashed or pulled, just that it bothers me a bit.

They will look and see that you have been naughty in the past, maybe get it cleaned up so on first impressions your record doesn't look as bad as it does now.

What did you do to get four points?

They're all current aren't they? Ie your license stays endorsed for 4 years from the offence, so the first points will expire in January.

none are spent
they are spent after 5 years
2 are no longer counted towards a toting up ban, but they must stay on the licence for 4 years
so the first one comes off in January 2015, which is also when paper licenses stop being sent out, so you will never be able to have any of them removed.

While the points are only counted for 3 years for totting purposes, the endorsement stays on your licence for 4 years, so it will be January 2015 before you can have the first one removed. Even if you get them removed, employers, insurers etc can still require you to disclose the convictions for 5 years, which is the amount of time they take to become "spent" under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.

The driving licence counterpart is due to be scrapped at some point next year (can't remember the exact date off the top of my head) and replaced with a solely electronic record of your endorsements. When that happens you can just throw your counterpart in the bin, so there's probably not a lot of point paying for a new one.

Thanks chaps, didn't realise they didn't just expire after three years, guess I'll just leave it then for the time being.

And I got 4 points for an SP30 in Chideock near Weymouth. Doing 58 in a 40. Had a long battle with the Dorset Constabulary (I lost) over who was driving, I genuinely didn't know if it was me or my wife and their answer was in that case we both had to plead guilty. I will never go to Dorset again

I thought the rehabilitation of offenders thing was just for criminal convictions, not motoring. Certainly when I get my police disclosure record for visa applications my motoring offenses are not recorded.

Motoring offences are criminal offences. The minor ones like speeding aren't recordable offences, which means that they don't show up on a standard CRB check, but an employer can still ask about them until they become spent under the ROA. That said most employers wouldn't be too bothered about them unless it was a job which involved driving.

I found this site useful to see if points were on a licence or not...

It's not worth paying to get a clean counterpart - you can tear it up on Jan 1st.

Seems pretty irrelevant. There's no need to carry the paper part with you, surely?

Good site. What does "provisionally drive" mean?

Checked on the website that Seesure suggested (thanksclap) and it says the first two convictions are expired. So IMHO I've just got 4 points on my licence. But I'll not bother getting a new paper part if they're being phased out

I agree, what is to be gained from having a reprint of you paper license without them on there?

Generally, if you take an SP30 to court and lose, they will give you 4 points
