Morning all, as above, next curiosity with the 260e.
Looking into the engine bay, underneath the coolant tank, attached to two hoses that go to the heater/engine is a small motor.

This sounds like a bearing has gone and making a right old racket.

What's it called? I've googled it and can't find it anywhere irked

Not that one, it's a small one to the left of the compartment, I'll have a look and find a photo...

It is a "circulation pump". Part number A001 835 13 64. A mere £175 at the dealer so you may want to look second hand! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-S-Class-W240-He...

I haven't double-checked the part numbers against your chassis, so don't rely on me.
