Anyone had their Gaz's rebuilt?
Discussion
I've never liked my Cerbs handling and ride and at my last service Andy (APM) confirmed that at least the rears are knackered and the adjusters are seized. The most popular approach seems to be Nitrons but that would have to wait to next year due to other projects bleeding me dry and I use my Cerb all year.
I went out for a spin a week ago and I really noticed how terrible the car is now, to the point I was pretty hacked off with it (combined with the brakes that never stop squealing, it was the worst I've ever felt towards the cerb)
I spoke to guys at Gaz a long time ago and they said they can rebuild the existing shocks (I have the ones with rubber bushes, not rose joints) after reading a really long thread on the Tam forum about peoples mixed fortunes with out of the box Nitrons I'm thinking that maybe I should whip off the Gaz's and send them off for a refurb, anyone done this? What did it cost you?
Am I right to think its pretty simple to get the shocks off, just a rusty bolt at each end or is there special wishbone trickery to reach all the bolts?
cheers

I don't own a Cerb, but I recently sent my Gaz Gold Pro back (well, three of them) for rebuild. They came back rebuilt (rose jointed model)and set at the correct ride height for £109 inc postage back, IIRC. it cost me £16 to send the three to them, but the turnaround was pretty quick; received by them on the Friday afternoon, back at my house on the Wednesday.

Do you have to send them directly to GAZ or does this also work through dealerships?I'm thinking of changing all springs to stiffer ones and get a refurb of the dampers in the process.

Cheers that sounds very good, will have a look at getting mine off weather permitting. My brake pads are CL5's, i upgraded to brummies 330mm disc's and pads. Ive spoken to Paul about the noise and he's advised i just need to get the mileage on them which is what I'm doing.

I got hold of some 3M anti squeal material (if such a thing really exists!) when my pads squealed, even after 1000 miles. It is almost like thick bodge tape, cut to size of the mating surfaces on the back of the pad. The squeal went straight away. It's called 3M ASK1, and can be found on eBay although I was sent some by the pad manufacturer.
Yep Paul provided this with the pads but they still squeal like a b**tard. I just need to get more mileage on, hence the need to get the suspension sorted. If I still can't stop the squeal I'll try DS2500's or whatever they are. Only problem is the price tag just to stop the squeal, the stopping power of the CL's is awesome.Gassing Station | Cerbera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
