Boxster 986 s oil level gague failure

On starting the car from cold 2004 986S tip, the dash display shows oil level failure OK? and no measuring bar display.
I have changed the level sensor on the top of the engine but the display is the same! Oil and filter has been changed and level is on the max
Does this new sensor need to be coded the car or do I still have a problem?
Any ideas? What should I try next prior to booking in with Porsche?
