Our new gamble...

Ladies and Gentlemen of Pistonheads. Please be upstanding and welcome our latest acquisition, all 2200kg of risk of it

Its a 1991 Westfalia California with a galactic 340000km on the clock from the agricultural 2.4, 5 cylinder diesel lump shaking away up front
Here is a few pics of it on the forecourt before we brought it home

So, it looks ok from the pics, sadly its not quite so tidy closer up. The interior is pretty good, especially the seats. I cannot believe its done 340k looking at the wear on the seats. The exterior has been tarted up recently, probably so it could be sold. I spent a good while looking over it trying to ascertain whether it was actually ok and a good buy. I couldn't find anything serious so jumping with with both testicles we did the deal.
When i got it home after 5 days of worry i decided to have a rummage...... and ........ well..... how about i let my list of items i ordered on the net yesterday to tell the story.
1, Angle Grinder
2, Wire brush
3, POR15
4, Tarpaulin
and various eBay searches involving the word "MIG" and "130A".
While searching for the battery charger behind the cupboards i found that the rear wheel arches are badly corroded, i couldn't see it or feel it from the outside because it was behind a chassis member so i couldn't kick myself too hard for missing it.
Anyway, i now have a plan. Remove all the interior and carpet and see where we stand and what the jobs are. The smaller jobs im going to weld myself, the bigger ones ill get done at a garage. I plan on spending a lot of time underneath cleaning up all the chassis and bed to find any more rush before getting it welded and finally treating it with POR15. A few nervous weeks ahead!
Once thats all out of the way, the fun can begin with planning interior and gizmo mods before next June when we are taking it on a 2 month tour of Scandinavia.
Ill try and post pics of my progress and hopefully no more of any rust!
