£100K Garage: Rob Southern

An M Division legend, a 90s rally hero, a fast Audi and a TVR see to Rob's fictional £100K

Name: Rob Southern
Previously owned: Citroen Xantia, VW Passat 2.0, Golf GTI Mk5 DSG, BMW E60 525d M Sport
Currently owned: Golf GTI Mk6 DSG
On the shortlist: "BMW M3 E46 or CS or CSL (!), Audi S4 B8, BMW M5 E60, Audi RS6 C6.

"I have a lust for German performance Q cars (who doesn't?) and usually I keep a car for three years before part exchanging for the next one. However more recently this has just not worked as the Mk5 GTI and 5 Series didn't last much past two years before the gearboxes needed major work! Currently aiming to add an E46 M3 as a second car in the near future.

"My dream car is an M3 CSL (I have driven one previously) but that seems to be moving further and further out of reach as prices are on the rise... An M5 or RS6 are perhaps more realistic long term options."

BMW M3 CSL
Cost:
£35,495
Balance: £64,505
Why I chose it: "It's my dream real world car as a weekend weapon. I was lucky enough to drive one about five years ago side by side with the B7 RS4 - there was no comparison, this car is on another level! The noise, the handling and the special feeling you get when you are in it.

"Beautifully made and surely now only going to appreciate in value. This one looks well sorted with the AP brake upgrade and has clearly been well looked after."

M3 CSLs on PH this way.

Lancia Delta Integrale Evo II
Cost:
£24,995
Balance: £39,510
Why I chose it: "Weekend fun or runs to the station during the week for the Lancia. I have always wanted to own one since seeing them on TV ripping up the WRC as a boy. The romance might not last long, but I at least want to say I have owned one. This is upper mid-range on an ever increasing price spectrum (I saw a £240K Delta S4 advertised, shame it wasn't £140K cheaper then all £100K would have gone on the one car!). It's a clean example and in a lovely colour. I'm sold!"

Integrales are popular in £100K Garages! All the Deltas on PH here.

Audi RS6 Plus C5
Cost:
£16,995
Balance: £22,515
Why I chose it: "Tasty run out special of the C5 RS6 picks up the day car duties for the family. Big enough, fast enough and cool enough. The bills might just take up the rest of the budget, but with the C6 and C7 being slightly unloved the C5 RS6 Plus must go down as the best ever RS6? I would love to find out!"

Do your own Layer Cake remake with a C5 RS6 from PH here.

TVR Cerbera 4.5
Cost:
£21,000
Balance: £1,515 (use for respraying the TVR!)
Why I chose it: "Another one purchased from the heart and another weekend toy! Always fancied one of Blackpool's finest and this was the one I wanted. Colour is not for me, but otherwise this one looks good having been well looked after and upgraded here and there. I am sure the sound would make up for the fact it would only work half the time!"

Is a yellow Cerbera for you? A green one? Or any colour? All of them for sale on PH here.

Can I be the first to congratulate you on an epic choice of metal in your garage.

Owed an Integrale identical to the one above and have had two TVR's, CSL is a legend of a car and values are only going to go one way.

Nice job OP biggrin

surely you'd have to be a loon to use an integrale as a station car park car... i know this feature isn't meant to be 100% serious, but it kind of is! Is it just £100k to spend on some cars, or is the inference that you aren't allowed any other cars than the ones you choose, regardless of price or whether you own them already?

M3 CSL & Delta Intergrale are both great choices and will probably only go up in value - but I'd have the CSL in grey not black, the colour shows up the CSL details better.

Cracking Garage.

Would have a Griff or Chim over a Cerb. Anything not using the Speed Six. I had a pre-serp Chim and loved it.

CSL - I have one now. Love it to death and no one looks at it unless they are a Pistonhead. Can park it anywhere un-like a Chim.

Lancia?????? Would have to have to take an Impreza 22B

Cerb 4.5 isn't speed 6.

And if used regularly will likely be as much or more reliable than all the others chosen wink

While this is true, I still feel that black CSLs look an awful lot better in the flesh than they do in pics

A really good garage but I guess I would make some slightly different choices.

For an M3 why not pick a more modern classic, the last of the aspirated cars for the same money and thus be able to enjoy it to the full for years to come.

Cannot fault the choice of an Integrale EVO II
With the few quid saved on the M3 then I would get one in red, it has to be and it has half the milage. Though the blue is understated and looks to be in great condition.

At that age I would take a better RS4 than an older RS6.

As for the Cerbera. Well where is the soft top or convertible for those summer days in the UK, listening to the TVR?
If a Cerbera I would take this speed eight one with no need for a respray, perfect colour and history:

Otherwise spend a little less on the V8 M3 and buy a 350T with removable roof or even the more refined but soft top Tamora.

it is in any case a really fine garage, each car a modern classic, functional and likely to bring hours of fun and the required headaches as well.

I cant at all think why you want a track focussed, limited run, sure fire investment BMW M3 over a modern made run of the mill M3 wink
