anyone know if you actually have to own a vehicle to insure it?
I'm looking to preserve my hard-earned NCB while between tivs. I know that NCB has a 'shelf life' of 2 years but it's now looking likely that my vehicleless period may last longer than this.

Could I, for instance, insure the missus' company car?

Possibly, but only assuming it wasn't insured by somebody else (her employer).

Why not buy a banger and insure it? Nowhere to park it?

Missed this trick when I was younger...

Buy a sub £100 heap (you could even drive it!) and insure it cheap as chips.

BTW Most insurance companies cross-reference their policies now and they don't take kindly to double-coverage.

I'll let you insure my car for me.

I'll even drive it for you

I'd have somewhere to park an old banger but I could do without the aggro of actually owning the thing.

Besides, my wife says I am permanently miserable when I've got a car that's giving trouble. Had to sell a Jag XJ12 S3 (my TVR contrast car) for this very reason as I was always outside at weekends trying to stop it disintegrating...
