My 1961 Ford Anglia is very light and floaty, especially in the rain.
How can I tell if it has the original steering box or I'd its hi rack and pinion fitted?
Thanks

If you peer under the bonnet you will see either a box or rack and pinion at the end of the column.

A box is just that, about 6" square, a rack is a long thin thing connecting the wheels. A bit like a pipe approx 2" in diameter.

Before you play with the steering look at the tyres. I'm not sure Anglias are brilliant at speed, designed before motorways and stuff.

Steering box steering can be okay so long as the box and linkages are in good shape. Personally I would be looking at the dampers, tyres and also the alignment as these can all play a part in how the steering feels, especially in the wet.

Well unless the moderation team have been moving threads about the OP has had several questions recently on Ford Anglia related subjects in various forum sections with limited response so why not in a general car related section?

I'd personally say that the OP would probably be better off on a classic ford forum for marque/model specific questions despite the broad church (except for stretch tyres and stanced cars) that is PH
