I'm 18 and have driven for almost a year, so am waiting for my first year with no claims. My question is what would people recommend for a car that is fast as possible with reasonable insurance considering my age and I have 3 points. My budget is £2000.

Fast as possible is a pretty wide range of cars.

Whats your budget?
How practical does it have to be?
etc

Something cheap and with good safety. So WHEN you crash it doesn't cost too much and you walk away with a bit of experience.

Best would be to buy an MX5 in your MUM's name, and put you on as a named driver, and then Modify it as a track day special. You know, fake roll cage, so low it touches all most of the time, and 8 inch wide alloys with tyres designed for a 5 inch wide wheel. Twin exhausts and a cuddly toy dangling from the rear tow hook.

With three points on your licence already you don't need fast as your one fpn off a ban already.

Why don't you buy an old Series III Land Rover?
Stick with me on this...
1. Its kind of cool, in a way you may not yet understand
2. Take it to festivals.. sleep in it.. on it etc e.g. Roof tent.
3. You can take 6 of your mates out with you
4. Tow your mate's Citroen Saxo, Fiesta, Corsa, Yaris out of the ditch they have crashed into before the rozzers arrive.
5. Endlessly customise and mess about with it... and you will learn proper mechanics
6. Get to work/ sixth form/ college in the snow (maybe not so important)
7. Absolutley differentiate yourself from your mates with Citroen Saxo, Fiesta, Corsa, Yaris and other horrid housewifey things
8. Advanced ninja 18 year old skill: Drop in a V8
9. Very low insurance..
10. Cruise about in a chilled slow way as opposed to endangering yourself and others..
11. There will be a slightly horsey, slim posh pretty blonde with wellies who will adore you for it..
12. Girl's dad's will approve
13. The roof will come off and voila you have a surfs up/ beach thing going on.
14 Its a mans car...

You can go as fast as you like on the PS4. Project:Cars is out next month.

Otherwise, stop being a tit and keep your nose clean until the 2 year 6 point rule passes.

Sorry for being too vague. Preferably a hot hatch with 3 doors, £2000 maximum for insurance and surprisingly quick.

3 points in under a year of driving and you want something that's going to make you feel like driving faster.

take a look in the back of max power, there will be loads of ready modified stboxes for sale!

I'd recommend something old enough to have no seatbelts, airbags and crossply tyres

What have you come from, have you tried insurance quotes for any cars?

Ah to be 18 again and believe that we were driving God's...
When I was a lad - all I had to worry about was the marked traffic police cars and the odd radar trap ( that everyone coming the opposite direction would warn you of )

Now, we have average speed cameras, unmarked police cars, vans and bikes, motorway overhead speed cameras, speed cameras everywhere, traffic light cameras, goody goody members of the public with Gopro's posting your antics on Youtube ( followed by a visit from plod ) - heck even your mates in your car will shaft you given half a chance by recording things on their camera phone - and putting it up on Facebook.
The roads had about 60% less traffic on them too.
Country roads were empty with 60mph limits, there were no traffic calming measures in towns.
Those were the days.

And as above - you are a ball hair away from losing your licence.

I'd keep the car you have, and spend the rest on the odd track day or driving tuition. ( You may think you are an above average driver - you're not. You are at the start of your driving career. Learning from racing drivers is good fun )

But if you like to spanner the Land Rover idea is actually a good left field shout - and pretty much depreciation free.
