Hello I'm buying a VXR8 6.0 which has a TVS supercharger, Wortec 3inch exhaust and LS7 clutch running 575bhp. Now because the car is heavy I'm unsure on how fast this will actually be? I currently own a VX220 which has 300bhp, from 60mph upwards will I notice a difference in performance? I'm guessing a supercharged VXR8 is about the same as a E92 M3? Maybe a tad quicker?

Anyway I've tried looking but haven't found much. What do people go for after the supercharger? What's the best gains from here? What's needed to go to 700bhp for example? Then to 800bhp? Just trying to get an idea on whats what.

if there was a big enough face palm picture I'd use it right now

its like comparing dick size to a blue whales

Lets put it this way, you have bought a car so far opposite from what the VX220 is there is no point even asking questions about how the two compare

Had a feeling I'd get a reply like this. I'm not asking to compare cars I'm just asking if I will notice a difference to straight line speed. I know what 300bhp feels like in a straight line in a VX220, I've owned it for years... but I don't know what 575bhp will be like in a VXR8. Not comparing, just trying to get an idea on how fast/slow it will be.

If your considering going 7/800 bhp just dont waste your money & buy a Gtr as it will cost you a fortune & will be totally pointless

Buy the car enjoy it as it is and you will get all the answers yourself

Normally isn't that what a test drive is for, before you buy?. Heck I even had a dealer give me a Type R for a whole weekend, that was fun, but I did buy the car. Hope you enjoy the car V8's sure are fun.

Welcome to the forum.

The VX220 is a very different car, although the figures on paper may be similar they will drive completely different to drive.

Friend of mine has just bought a (non VXR) VX220 turbo, he was also considering a Monaro but was his second car. Total opposites and so we will be comparing the two, and hopefully I will encourage him to come to TR next year. I imagine with 300bhp the VX220 will be immensely quick!

Excuse Stig, he has a wker number plate for a reason! wink
As already said, the cars are too different to compare however I'd suggest the 220 is going to be faster to 60 or even 80 or so and possible feel faster after that due to the raw driving position (arse on floor) however the R8 should start showing its abilities after about 100 leptons....

Must be nice to fit in a 220 BTW, I bloody can't although for very different reasons to Araf! biglaugh

I can get in them tongue out but can't get back out, as I'm wedged in the seat. hehe

The VXR8 has a lot of inertia to overcome, so performance may seem a little blunt, compared to your 220. However, once they start to move, they keep accelerating hard.

I've got a vx220sc and a vxr8. Vx220 is running 250bhp at the moment but I'm building a 300bhp spec engine for it at the moment. Vx220 is a serious machine to get off the line, and upto 100mph, but the vxr8 would pass it by once the grip level isn't a problem.

yikes

Errrr yeah what he said....I think hehe

Saw numerous vx220's run down the POD and had much better times than the VXR8's
Problem was getting the power down on the VXR8's...The 220'S are much lighter/ stripped out...
BUT on the motorway no contest Supercharged VXR8 with 4 up smile

I went from a 375ish hp S2000 and now have a standardish VE GTS (420ish hp).

It's slower, heavier, wider, longer, less feel, less delicate ..

Would I swap back? Not likely.

It's less scream, more roar.

It's a very different way of accelerating, and doesn't seem to care if you are on your own, or have 4 others in the car.

Welcome, normally people get a much warmer welcome than that, must be a bad time of the month hehe

As has been said, it's going to be a very different experience, and the R8 won't feel as raw/fast (clearly!)

Can only assume you're looking for something different anyway hence considering a 4 door from a VX220.

If you're just after point to point speed, it'll be a waste, but for experience, the sense of limitless power and joyous noise is a whole new thing coming from a lightweight rocketship
