I nominate ChimpOnGas for the idea of using Velcro for the top roll.
Just done mine...fantastic result

Thanks Rabowman but I cant take credit for that one, I think I got the idea from Rich "Discopotato".Just done mine...fantastic result

Even if you only ever take the dash top off one more time after securing it with Velcro tape you'll immediately be grateful you'd refitted that way.
My dash top is coming off again on Monday to fit a little box of electronics that solves the bouncing Caerbont rev counter needle I've had since converting to the Canems engine management system.
That dash top will be off and back on in seconds

Can you get the gizmo for the Emerald ?Even if you only ever take the dash top off one more time after securing it with Velcro tape you'll immediately be grateful you'd refitted that way.

I would of thought the electronic principles inside the Canems tacho box should work just as well with any brand of engine management system that utilizes wasted spark.
The little box of electronics has been created by David Hampshire of Canems for Lloyd Specialist Developments to complement their excellent Canems engine management installations, importantly it's been specifically designed for TVR customers who have the Caerbont type tacho.
If your rev counter needle is bouncing surely Emerald or your installer offer a similar solution? If not I do know that some have sent their tacho away to Speedy Cables who offer an effective (if rather expensive) modification.
Your other option could potentially be a Cerbera tacho? This has a different scale on the face as the AJP8 revs a lot higher than the RV8, but if you get one in a matching colour from a breakers it would look the same as the rest of your Caerbont gauges.
I believe the Cerbera tacho has different electronics inside it to ours because its designed to work with coil packs. However, and TBH I'm not sure if it would actually work with our Ford EDIS wasted spark type ignition systems, and even if it will a Cerbera tacho could easily cost the same as the Speedy Cables mod.
Your best bet is to talk to your installer, I'm sure he'll know if the Cerbera tacho idea is a workable solution, I also believe Simon has solved his bouncing tacho needle on his MegaSquirt installation, so he'll be another good guy to ask.
Either way if your taco needle is bouncing there will be a solution out there for you somewhere Daz, I just cant say if in your case it's the Canems tacho box given you bought a different (but very well respected) engine management system.
Hope you get it sorted, Dave.
would something like this work?

I just had to put a 1k pull up resistor on the ECU feed to fix my tacho have you tried that?
Like this
(stole from google, basically just put a resistor from a 12V to the ECU feed)

I don't want to be a doom monger but is that safe.
In the event of an impact will it stay in place or possibly come loose and end up flying around the cabin ?
Perhaps use only two of the bolts with wing nuts and leave off the right hand end one which is usually the hard one to get to.
Totally safe, it's actually firmly located by the studs and then very securely held in place by the Velcro tape. Trust me its going nowhere, even in the event of an accident. In the event of an impact will it stay in place or possibly come loose and end up flying around the cabin ?

But thanks for your concern for my personal safety, do you work for The health & Safety Executive by any chance?
If things coming loose and safety are your primary concerns may I politely suggest a TVR might not be the right car for you

In the interests of being helpful let me point you in the right direction:

After hearing about the state of the chim that turned up in our compound a few days ago I'd have to agree, I'm not even tempted to go and have a look at it for myself. Anyone know it? Yellow, private plate, East London/West Essex area, heavy side impact.
My tip of the year is to not crash

Chimaera side impact protection is zero!
These cars are not for the safety conscious driver

Is that the right hand nut that no one replaces In the event of an impact will it stay in place or possibly come loose and end up flying around the cabin ?
