I'm surprised that this isn't being discussed on here already? I'm usually the late one with news!

http://www.asa.org.uk/Rulings/Adjudications/2014/1...

I personally think that the ASA have been far too heavy handed with this one.

I really don't know what the hell makes people tick in this country. It only takes a handful if complaints to the BBC evidently to cause a ruckus - as with this advert - that's been seen by millions.

Whoever considers what is done about these things should surely be expected to exercise some common sense?

Here is the advert: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ty3K6SI2kas

Its absolutely ridiculous that someone actually took the time to complain about that.

I think I'd complain if I was forced to sit through that awful advert again! The car is hideous too!

The same type of person that would complain about someone doing 'wheelspins' in a supermarket car park.

Apart from the car, which I don't like, what is wrong with the advert?

What kind of sad-arsed prick has the time, or the inclination, to complain about that?

tt.

BMW need to start doing things like this again:

Although nowadays I don't think it would have as much effect, as there would be no gratuitous gear changes. frown

When i'm in charge of this sort of thing, AND I fkING WILL BE, it will be mandatory to write your name on the tarmac.

Anything that can't do it will be shot into the fking sun.

The complainant was probably from a rival group

To be fair, the advert does imply its a race car for the everyday man. Not that I think the ad is bad or should be banned - on the contrary - but I can see what they are getting at.

What a stupid fcensoreding saddo, how fcensoreding dim do you have to be to not notice the empty racetrack and driver wearing a full face helmet and overalls, not to mention the M4 is a 400bhp performance car like the GT86 ad and as with everything else in life its a case of catering to the hopless ccensoreds that make up the 'lowest common denominator'.

The complainant was probably one of those w&nkers from BRAKE, and the ASA is now owned by the H&S lobby so the outcome was pre-determined from the moment the single complaint landed.

Indeed the way the ASA is these days ist would hardly surprise me if the single complaint was entered by someone frm the ASA, just so they could preach political correctness..
