Windscreens - Advice with fitting - please
Discussion
I posted a note the other day, that I am to have a new windscreen fitted by National Windscreens.
Just wanted some advice and tips about taking the old one out and replacing it with the new one.
Having read last night on this site about 'Beware' and 'Take caution when fitting a new windscreen' Can any of you experienced guys please pass on any tips that I could 'politely' inform the guys of National Windscreens? I know they fit hundreds of windscreens but like yours! - My 'S' is special to me! Thanks guys. A Merry Christmas to you all

I just had a new screen fitted to the cerby. Autoglass did a top job. I did have a friendly chat with them before to make sure that they were aware of the fact that it had just had the front sprayed and that I didnt want it scuffed and that I wanted a top job etc etc.
I also got a decorators polythene dust sheet from wicks and put it all over the drivers and passengers seat so I didnt get any nasty hand prints on my seats.
Happy Xmas

Main thing is to take the glass out carefully. The glass is bonded to the body with the leather sandwiched between the 2. If they just whack a stanley knife between the 2 they will cut the leather and it can't then be fixed back under. I reckon to remove the glass and clean up the egdes properly must take the better part of 2 hours. Best advice is to get them to do it under cover at their depot and leave the car with them for a day. Fitting is dead easy, its removal thats apain.
Search the archives, I had big problems about 18 months ago with this. Tripps also had issues, I think related to wrong glass being ordered. It can be done well, just takes time and they have to know this in advance. I'd make a real pain in the ar5e of myself to get the point through before the knives come out. I'd also get some good close up digital photos before it goes in. If anythng does
up, you then have some proof of a before state. Hearing 'its not like its a new car is it mate' from the manager of the depot that botched my car wasn't too easy to refute without pictures..
