Anyone been thru the GT3 v 993 RS thing?
Discussion
If so, i'd love to hear your - or anyone else's - take on it.
Car will be used for fun days and track days only. Don't need the back seats, impractical is fine.
993RSs seem to be around the £50k mark (LHD) as do LHD GT3s. Perhaps the GT3MkIIs in the early 60s make even better value for money.
I've driven mkI and II GT3s. Found the mkI to be more raw, but the mkII has an absolutely wonderful engine - felt faster - and brilliant brakes.
I've not driven a 993RS. Could anyone comment as to how it would drive compared to my preVRAM 993, which has M030 and Bilstein HDs mapped at around 295bhp.
Cheers, merry XMAS and happy new yr to all!
Ajit.

Ive got a MK1 gt3. and its an absolute hoot. Difficult choice, because the 993 rs is one of the most attractive cars porsche ever made. Having said that, the Gt3 is far more modern a car, probably safer and dare I say it faster??
Not sure how many examples of either models are available at the mo, but I doubt there are many low mileage 993rs's.
Have a look at Jonny Senna's thread on his new 993 down the list. Its gorgeous. Personally I think the GT3 has just as much presence. Like I said, difficult choice.
I think both the 993RS and GT3 are fantastic. I've owned a Mk2 GT3 for over a year now, and have just sold a LHD 993 RS (to Johnny).
The RS is the better handling car imho - it's lighter, more delicate and has fantastic turn in and balance. The brakes are also a match for the later car (again probably because there is so much less weight to slow).
The GT3's engine and gearbox is its trump card - much stronger than the RS everywhere, and with some tweaking to the standard suspension, the car does handle exceptionally well (Mk1s are better than Mk2s out of the box). It can generate an enormous amout of grip and at the end of the day will always be faster than an RS (assuming similar tyres and geometry set up).
I've spent a fair bit of time on my GT3 upgrading it to make it as good (and probably now better) than the RS CS as a track car, including aerodynamics, new suspension and geometry by Manthey Racing, engine remap and exhaust. It is stunning on track, but now somewhat compromised for the road (which is fine).
Personally, I'd go for the GT3 just because it is more modern, the engine is stronger (and costs a lot less to maintain) and it can be adjusted for just about any driving style - track or road.
Have fun!
