Hi there, Me and this lad who lives near me want to swap cars but with this new tax law in now...to avoid retaxing the cars can we just put on date of sale on v5 that we swapped on like 28th september to keep the tax on each cars (both jan 15) or is it risky doing that??

Not really clued up on the new tax law yet but i know its a fking stupid idea.

Thanks

You can't do that. As soon a there is a change of keeper recorded the tax will be cancelled and a refund issued to the last owner automatically. There is no way around it, if you get yourself a new car you have to buy tax for it but look on the bright side as you will get a refund for any remaining on your car.

Yes they CAN do that. Whether they should is another matter!

The DVLA will take the date of transfer of ownership you put on the V5 when you send it to them. They aren't psychic so will use the date provided.
