This afternoon I decided that the time had come to replace my old distended rubber coolant hoses for some new silicone jobbies. Once off the car looking inside both the metal multi tube coolant pipe work there is a pronounced build up of ferrous metal blisters inside the tubes. They are easily removed from the surface of the metal pipes as they just crumble away to a black sludgy crust. Do you know where this metal would have originated from? Do you think it might have come from the liners? And, is there any fantastic coolant flushing chemical I should use?

This odd build up seems to only be in the lower metal tubes and not the upper right angle metal tubes. I can only assume its because the car must have been sitting dormant for quite some time.

Most likely the pipe itself corroding, rather than deposits from somewhere more expensive.

Internal corrosion shouldn't occur if the correct mix of coolant is used (and changed regularly).

Maybe at some point in the cars life this hasn't happened?

Probably the pipes itself.
Mine were badly corroded as well.
I had them all shot blasted, galvanized and powdercoated for £70 (waterrails included)
But you can go for the more expensive but very shiny stainless steel ones as well
At some point in the car's life someone just put plain water in there

Well, this afternoon I gave me pipes a realy good clean. Using an angle grinder with a sanding pad, plus an old dental drill to get inside I took them back to bare metal. Rust treated them, then enamel painted the buggers. Should do for now I hope.
Who sells the stainless replacements? Sounds like a worthwhile investment.
