Taxing without V5 or new owners Supp

I recently bought a TVR Chimaera on a Cat D (light fiberglass)
The dealer provided me with the V11 replacement V5 form which I have sent off.
The car is insured, and MOT'd (I have a copy of this) but I don't think I can tax it. Do I really have to just sit tight and wait x number of weeks until the new log book turns up, or is there any other way? It's killing me not being able to drive it.
